Investing in a luxury hire car: you buy it, we manage it
Investing in a luxury car, in this context, means one specific thing: you buy it through your company, and we put it up for hire. The car remains yours and you drive it when it’s available. When it’s being used by GC Auto’s clients across more than 290 European destinations, you receive a share of each hire; our percentage is set out in the contract. Earnings vary and depend on the actual number of hires. For businesses and VAT-registered individuals only.
Six steps: from analysis to a car for hire
Here are the steps, in the order in which they take place. For each one, we’ll tell you what we do, what you need to do, what you need to sign and what you’ll receive. No hidden steps, no surprises after you’ve signed.
Analysis and forecast
We’ll show you which models are most in demand amongst our customers, based on actual data from the GC Auto fleet, and draw up a forecast for your car, taking into account the assumptions and costs involved. This is a non-binding estimate, not a promise.
Purchase in your company’s name
You purchase the car through your company, either from the supplier of your choice or via our sales and trade-in service. The invoice is made out to your company and the car is yours from day one. You don’t share it with anyone: one car, one owner, one contract.
Practical information: roadworthy and available for hire
We take care of all the paperwork: SCIA, registration for self-drive hire, insurance policies specifying hire use, and mandatory notifications. They serve just one purpose: to ensure your car is fully compliant and ready for self-drive hire. When the first booking comes in depends on demand for that model at that time: we cannot guarantee it.
Comprehensive car management
This is where we operate: we hire out cars to our customers under the name GC Auto, using our own contracts and security deposits. Bookings, drop-offs and pick-ups at over 290 European destinations, car washes and maintenance, GPS and security, secure storage, marketing. You always know where your car is.
Revenue: a percentage of each hire
For every hire, GC Auto retains its management fee: a percentage specified in the contract. The rest goes to your company. There is no fixed amount and no minimum: if the car isn’t being hired out, we don’t earn anything either. You’ll receive a breakdown of the actual hires.
You use it when it isn’t hired out
The car remains yours to use: when it isn’t booked, you can drive it – for a weekend, a trip or an event – in accordance with the terms of the contract. Personal use has tax implications: discuss this with your accountant before you start.
Comprehensive management of your luxury hire car
With us, you don’t need to become a car hire operator: we hire the car ourselves, under the name GC Auto, through our own organisation. Here’s what we do, every day, for your managed vehicle: the same work we’ve been doing for our own fleet since 2020.
Customers and bookings
We handle the customers: enquiries, quotes, checking documents and drivers, the hire contract, and the deposit. If a customer asks for a model that we also have in our fleet, which car is provided? The rule is set out in the contract: we’ll explain it to you before you sign.
Deliveries and collections
We deliver and collect the car wherever the customer requires: hotels, private residences, airports, and over 290 destinations across Europe, with a concierge and chauffeur available on request. For every handover and return, we document the condition of the car with a photographic report.
Washing and care
Between each hire, the car is washed and checked, ready for the next customer or for you. Servicing and maintenance: we’ll set out who does what in the contract.
Marketing and visibility
Your car will be included in the GC Auto range and will be offered to customers who have been hiring from us since 2020: on our website, with photos of the vehicle, and through our network. You don’t need to promote it yourself.
GPS and safety
Every car in our fleet has an active GPS device. This is to protect the car and ensure we always know where it is; for high-value cars, it is often also a condition imposed by insurance companies for theft cover.
Storage and safekeeping
When it’s not being used for work or by you, the car is kept in our depot in Arsago Seprio, just a few minutes from Malpensa: convenient for airport drop-offs.
Fines and accidents
Any fines incurred during a hire period are passed on to the customer who was driving: the person who hired the car is liable for them. In the event of an accident, we handle the claim with the insurance company and the customer, in accordance with the procedure set out in the contract.
Would you like to see how we work?
Write to us: we’ll explain how we manage our fleet, from the first point of contact with the customer right through to return.
For companies and VAT-registered individuals: a luxury car that gets the job done
For businesses and VAT-registered individuals only. You don’t need to set up a hire company or apply for licences: the car is registered in your company’s name and we hire it out, using our own licences and organisation. Here’s who it works for and who it doesn’t.
The entrepreneur with an active company
You have an active business and want a luxury company car, registered in the company’s name, which is used for hire rather than left idle. The tax treatment depends on how you use it: you should discuss this with your accountant first.
The enthusiast with a VAT number
You love cars and want your supercar to have a real life. A Ferrari or a Lamborghini sitting in the garage costs money: with our management service, you drive it when it’s free, and the rest of the time it’s available to our customers for hire.
Anyone who wants to run two or three cars without setting up a branch
Would you like to operate two or three cars through our organisation, without the need for premises, staff or day-to-day management: each car has its own contract. Or would you prefer to open a ‘Point’, i.e. a GC Auto franchise branch? Take a look at the franchising page.
It is not suitable for private individuals without a VAT number, for those looking for a fixed monthly income, or for those who want the car to be available at all times: when it is booked, the customer who has hired it will be driving it for those days. And it’s not a tax loophole: it’s a genuine car-hire business, which you’ll need to set up with your accountant.
A car you own, which can be put to work when you’re not using it
No hidden benefits and no inflated costs. These are the concrete points that set a car managed by us apart from one sitting in the garage.
- The car remains yoursRegistered in your company’s name, registered in its name, yours from the start, throughout and after the contract. You are not buying a promise or a share in something: you are buying a car that you can see, drive and, at the end of the contract or subject to the required notice period, sell.
- Actual rental incomeYou receive a share of every hire. There is no fixed amount. Our management fee is a percentage set out in the contract before it is signed: it is payment for the service, not a share of your business. The rest goes to your company. If the car isn’t being used, we don’t earn anything either.
- Rental income helps to cover the costsA luxury car costs money even when it’s not being driven: road tax, the super tax, insurance, maintenance and depreciation. Every hire helps to cover these costs, but adds to the mileage and wear and tear. To what extent depends on the actual number of hires: the forecast compares revenue and costs using estimated figures – not guaranteed ones – in a non-binding estimate.
- You decide, we’ll take care of itChoose the model with us; you’ll always know where your car is and you can collect it from the fleet under the terms set out in the contract. You’re the owner; we’re your manager.
- A clear, written termination clauseThe contract specifies the term and the notice period in writing: we’ll go through these together at our first meeting. Upon expiry, or once the stipulated notice period has elapsed, the car is removed from the fleet and becomes yours. We do not buy it back, nor do we set its value: that is determined by the market.
Why entrust your car to GC Auto
You’re not starting from scratch. GC Auto has been offering short-term luxury car and supercar hire since 2020, with delivery to over 290 European destinations, a dedicated concierge and a chauffeur on request. There are over 200 vehicles on the platform: Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Mercedes and Maserati. We already have customers: your car joins an established fleet, not a project that needs building from scratch.
We know which models are in demand and where, because we’re the ones delivering them: every day we see what customers are booking, where and when. Based on this data, we’ll advise you on which models make sense for hire. You decide where to buy them: from the supplier of your choice or through our sales network. You can meet us in person: a team of 12 people based in Arsago Seprio, just a few minutes from Malpensa.
Transparency is how we work: clear deposit terms, actual vehicles, genuine photographs. At the end of the contract, the car remains yours. If you wish to sell it, we can help you offer it to our contacts, with no obligation on our part and at current market rates. We do not buy the car back, nor do we set its value: the market does.
What we don’t promise (and what we do)
We do not promise a return percentage, a monthly amount, a timeframe for recouping the outlay, a future value of the car or a buy-back, at any price. No one can know this in advance: revenue depends on actual hire bookings, which vary according to model, season, destinations and periods of technical downtime; your company’s bottom line also depends on running and ownership costs. Furthermore, a luxury car loses value over the years and as the mileage increases: we’re telling you this up front, not afterwards.
What we do promise, in writing, before signing, is:
- Our percentage, as set out in the contract
- Details of your car hire bookings
- Who pays for what, item by item
- Clear rules for you to follow
- Term and notice period for termination
- We look after your car as if it were our own
The provisional plan you receive before making a purchase is a non-binding estimate, based on our historical data, which does not indicate future results: it is intended to help you make a decision, not to make any promises. We will go through every detail of the contract together at our first meeting.
There’s no financial product involved here: it’s your car, managed and hired out by us. We don’t raise capital, we don’t sell shares, and we don’t pool the revenue. You are the owner; we are your manager. Tax: the tax treatment of a car placed under a management and hire arrangement depends on your company and the use you make of it. Discuss everything with your accountant before buying.
Questions from those evaluating the service
Can a private individual hire out their own car?
No. The law (Articles 82 and 84 of the Highway Code and Presidential Decree 481/2001) permits car hire without a driver only by authorised companies, using vehicles registered for that purpose: anyone who rents out their private car risks a fine and the suspension of their vehicle registration certificate. With GC Auto, the car is registered in your company’s name, registered for self-drive hire and rented out by us, a car hire company operating since 2020.
How do you go about renting out your luxury car?
You’ll need a company or a VAT number in whose name the car can be registered. You don’t need to set up a hire business: we’ll take care of the SCIA notification, the registration for hire without a driver and the insurance policies covering hire use – these are simply required to ensure the car is legally compliant and available for hire. Next: analysis and a business plan, purchase in your company’s name, administrative procedures, and from there we’ll take care of everything.
How much can you earn from renting out a luxury car?
We do not promise a specific amount. You receive a share of the proceeds from each hire of your car, net of GC Auto’s management fee as set out in the contract. The amount depends on the model, season, destinations and days the car is available: during periods when the car is not in use, you do not earn any income. Ownership and management costs (road tax and super-road tax, insurance, maintenance, depreciation) must then be deducted from the revenue: the result for your company varies from year to year and, during periods of low demand, costs may exceed revenue. The forecast plan sets this out item by item. The forecast plan you receive before purchasing is a non-binding estimate, based on historical data from our fleet, which does not indicate future results.
Which luxury cars are worth offering for hire?
The ones customers book most often, not the ones we hope will increase in value. We recommend them to you based on actual data from the GC Auto fleet. The GC Auto fleet includes Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren, Rolls-Royce and Bentley. We’ll choose the model together before you buy; you decide where to buy it.
Is investing in a luxury hire car a financial product?
No. Here, you’re buying a car, not a share. It’s a luxury car management service on behalf of third parties; in other words, we rent out a car that belongs to you: one car, one owner, one individual contract. We do not sell shares, we do not collect money from multiple people, and we do not pool the revenue from different cars: the hire income from your car goes to your company, net of our management fee. It is not even a car-sharing scheme: we select the customers ourselves, with a contract and a security deposit.
Who pays for what: insurance, road tax, mileage?
It’s all set out in the contract, clause by clause, and we’ll go through it together at the first meeting. Road tax and the super tax remain the responsibility of the registered owner: make sure you factor these in from the outset. The car is insured for hire use. Mileage: each hire has a daily limit; the customer pays for any excess mileage.
What if a customer damages my car?
We ask every customer for a deposit and document the condition of the car on collection and return with a photographic report. In the event of damage, we handle the claim with the insurance company and the customer, in accordance with the procedure set out in the contract: you will see who pays for what, including excesses and uncovered amounts, before you sign. The car is out of service whilst it is being repaired: we tell you this beforehand, not afterwards.
Can I use the car registered in my company’s name when it isn’t being hired out?
Yes. The car is yours and, when it isn’t booked, you can use it, subject to the rules set out in the contract: how to book it and how much notice to give. Two things to bear in mind. Firstly: if it’s already booked by a customer, the hire booking takes precedence, and on the days you use it, it isn’t available for hire. Secondly: personal use has tax implications: if you drive the company car yourself, the tax authorities treat it differently from a car used solely for hire. Discuss this with your accountant before you start.
Will you buy my car back? How does the contract end?
No. We do not undertake any buy-back obligation, at any price or under any conditions: the future value of a car depends on the second-hand market, and no one can guarantee it. The individual management contract specifies the term and the notice period for termination in writing. Upon expiry, or following the required notice period, the car is removed from the fleet and remains yours. If you wish to sell it, we can help you offer it to our contacts, with no obligation on either side and at prevailing market conditions. The decision and proceeds remain yours.
In practice, what’s left for me to do?
Not much, but not nothing either. You sign the management contract, hand over the car and its documents to us, and decide when to use it. We handle the contracts with customers and the management of the hire: we hire out the car in the name of GC Auto. You receive a breakdown of the hire bookings and your share. We take care of the rest, day in, day out.
Can I buy the car on a lease or with a loan?
It depends on the lease or finance agreement: you’ll need the lender’s approval for rental use. Let’s discuss this before you buy, so you can choose the right option together with your accountant.
Let’s talk about your car
Tell us what sort of business you run, what sort of car you’d like and how much you’d like to use it. We’ll ring you back to arrange an initial, no-obligation consultation: we’ll explain the contract clause by clause, show you the most popular models and, if it makes sense for you, draw up a provisional plan for your car. Variable earnings, depending on actual hire figures: no guarantees of results.
